Currently I have a job that I don't really care for. I can do it, but it's nothing I ever wanted to have as an occupation. I'm a specialized bookkeeper for a construction company and also the office manager. I have some books out and I really don't make money on them. I would love to be a self-sustained writer, but that just doesn't seem to be in the cards. I'll just keep doing it as a hobby.
I mention my current job because I've always been interested in having my own business. If you don't like what you're doing, change what you're doing...right? I guess I'm trying to figure out what that is. One of my hobbies is "business planning"? Is that what I'm going to call it? I really love coming up with an idea for a business and fleshing out some major details for it, even to the point of figuring out preliminary start up costs. I don't know what you'd call that.
What sort of things do I have ideas for? It's a wide variety. A number of restaurants/food/beverage, retail, a gym, an R&D tech company, a few parks (private park, dog park, etc), a resort, an art gallery, a few newspapers/magazines, and nightclubs. Yes, I have a virtual city in my head. I'm that person who drafts up business space and living spaces in their spare time.
I just don't know where to start. I don't know what would be the best thing to start off doing. I'd love to find some other people who like this sort of thing so we can put our heads together for some elevated ideas.
I have submitted some ideas to the Fairbanks North Star Borough (we don't have counties in AK), but none of them were chosen. You can find all the submissions for 2019 at the borough's Capital Improvement Program. I had a park idea that would also clean up the Noyes Slough (a natural waterway that runs through the city) and a community center for North Pole (which it really needs).
I feel like I'm terrible at figuring out what people would support vs what my interests are. Is this sort of thing of any interest to anyone but myself? I'm not big on publicly sharing my ideas, but if anyone is interested in starting up a discussion...maybe we can talk or something...
